Opportunity If you love the water and working with young people, this is a unique and challenging opportunity to have fun while making a difference in the lives of thousands of kids from around the city of Boston.
Save the Harbor/Save the Bay runs two hands-on environmental education programs on Boston Harbor that serves 10,000 kids each summer - at no cost to the participants. We work in partnership with Boston’s youth sailing and recreation centers, as well as Camp Harbor View on Long Island and The Boston Children’s Museum to educate their summer staff and young sailors about the urban marine environment. We also run a series of educational boat trips to the Boston Harbor Islands where youth participants can take part in hands on recreational and educational activities on Georges or Spectacle Island. We run our programs on the sailing center’s docks, and on the shores of the Boston Harbor Islands.
Senior Marine Educators are responsible for implementing an engaging, active, and hands-on program including fishing, lobstering, crabbing, water quality tests, and guided shoreline walks. We also take on high-school age program assistants that, under the guidance of our Senior Marine Educators, assist with the program.
Program participants are ages 8-14, and come from all of the neighborhoods in Boston with a strong emphasis on low-income communities and underserved youth.
