The Groove Punch Hour Summer Beach Series is an interactive, multi-sensory celebration of Boston’s vibrant freestyle dance and music culture. Hosted monthly at Carson Beach (June, July, August-also including The Foundation on Spectacle Island SMMR Freestyle Battle), this event series will highlight local talent, build community, and create a welcoming space where everyone can connect through dance, music, and art.
Each event begins with a live DJ or beat set featuring acclaimed local producers such as Rilla Force, Xemina, and NVNO. These artists will also be commissioned to create original works for the SMMR Groove Punch Hour Mixtape, amplifying the creativity born at the beach. Dynamic dance styles like Krump, Popping, Locking, House, and Hip-Hop take center stage, blending with an eclectic mix of Funk, Disco, and House music.
Attendees actively engage in the experience, from participating in line dances and follow-along routines to serving as tie-breaker judges in reverse King of the Hill dance battles. Each event showcases freestyle dance ciphers, performances, and competitive battles where dancers compete for cash prizes in a unique electrifying battle format.
Complementing the performances, the series will feature food and merchandise from local small business vendors, celebrating the diversity and creativity of Greater Boston’s entrepreneurial community. Groove Punch, a signature hibiscus tea crafted to honor local artistry, will be served, adding a unique, refreshing touch to the experience.
Professional media coverage ensures that each event is recorded and shared as live video clips on YouTube, with audio transformed into DJ mixes available on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. This not only preserves the energy of Groove Punch Hour but also extends its reach, offering continued access to its cultural impact.
This beach series aims to foster a sense of belonging and community while attracting new audiences to Boston Harbor. It’s more than an event—it’s a movement to celebrate creativity, connect people, and make the arts accessible to all.
