Reclaim the Beach is a community-driven event hosted by Reclaim Roxbury, designed to bring Roxbury residents to Carson Beach to foster education, advocacy, and connection.

This event will feature engaging activities for all ages, including games for young people and adults, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

We will provide pre-packed lunches for attendees, to make sure the event is accessible for families and individuals.

In addition to recreation, Reclaim the Beach will serve as a platform for community empowerment and historical reflection. Informational tables will offer resources on finding affordable rentals and homeownership opportunities, equipping attendees with knowledge on housing stability. Experts will provide guidance on self-advocacy in cases of mistreatment or eviction, and attendees will learn about Reclaim Roxbury’s ongoing advocacy to prevent displacement.

This event will also honor the legacy of civil rights activism at Carson Beach, where Black Bostonians fought for equal access to public space in 1975. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about this history and reflect on its connection to today’s housing justice struggles. By bringing Roxbury residents—many of whom have historically faced barriers to coastal access—to the waterfront, this event will strengthen community ties to Boston Harbor while aligning with the grant’s goals of inclusivity, empowerment, and long-term engagement with the beach.
