The Muslim Youth & Family Beach Festival is a free, public youth and family day designed to create a welcoming and affirming beach experience for Muslim families and the broader community. The event responds to a real and documented barrier: many Muslims in our community are hesitant to attend beaches due to fear of judgment around modest dress, lack of halal food options, and the feeling of being out of place in beach environments. By intentionally creating a day where Muslim youth and families gather together, participants are able to attend the beach in modest activewear without shame, enjoy accessible halal food, and experience the beach as a space of belonging rather than exclusion.
Grounded in our youth program’s current theme, Roots and Seeds, the event frames caring for the environment as an act of worship and a shared community responsibility, while emphasizing family partnerships and bridging intergenerational gaps. Activities will include a youth-led beach clean-up and environmental learning stations that connect faith, stewardship, and collective care for public land. The day will also feature nasheed artists, a congregational prayer, sand art making, henna stations, and creative activities that celebrate cultural and religious identity in a joyful, public way. A free halal community meal will anchor the day, encouraging families to connect, reflect, and connect together.
Organized by our Better Beaches partner Islamic Society of Boston Youth Programs.
